Summary: Expert level skilled specialist that is cross-trained and fully proficient in all operational levels. Works under the supervision of the Medical/Laboratory Director and Center Management to maintain the highest production standards, product integrity and the continued good health of donors in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations. Primary responsibilities for role: Coordinates the medical staff schedules and processes in order to maximize safety and efficiency of the donor flow. Monitors turnaround times and sets the standard for medical operations. Selection of suitable plasmapheresis donors by performing physical examinations and taking medical histories on all donors through the use of FDA approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual, current State and Federal guidelines, OSHA, CLIA, CGMP, all internal company procedures and personal education and experience. May be scheduled to perform administrative and operational functions based on certifications and as requested by the Cneter Manager. Functions as one of the Medical Designated Trainers of the center. Along with the Center Medical Director, will serve as the main point of contact for administrative corporate medical communications related to company sponsored events, professional development, etc. Gives immediate feedbackregarding technical assistance to Center Medical Specialist and to donor center staff as needed. Monitor donor floor and works in different areas of the donor center in order to improve the efficiency for donor processiong times and customer service. Oversees the work of others and acts as the area lead but does not conduct performance appraisals or make hiring, salary, or termination decisions. Must attend cneter management meetings, as well as required Division Medical meetings. Submitts timely and accurate reports as required. Assists with the administration of employee Hepatitis Vaccine program. Performs all duties of the Center Medical Specialist in order to maximize safety, efficiency and processing times of donors. Including, but not limited to the follwoing: Monitors the donor floor for early adverse events. Evaluates and manages donor injuries and adverse effect. Handles the deferrals. Provides counseling to Donors regarding unacceptable test results. Provides Donor education on trends identified regarding general health assessments. Builds rapport with donors to promote customer satisfaction with the center to support long term donation through appropiate interation and responsiveness to customer needs. Administration of donor consent form, including donor awareness to potential hazards. Performs evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor suitability, and ensures donor medical information is complete and accurate prior to donation. Review of donor screening test to ensure eligibility of continued donation. Maintains and ensures proper sanitation and cleaning of equipment and work areas between donors. Responsible for research coordination, when applicable. Assists in employee training and coaching regarding medical SOPs as necessary. Maintain supplies necessary to perform job duties. May participate in the interview process of new hires. May provide input into performance appraisals and participate in employee performance counseling as requested and supervised by the Center Manager. Ensures Donor and Staff confidentiality. Reports all unsafe situations or conditions to Center Management. Perform other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong assessment skills with the ability to handle all donor suitability determinations. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. The ability to organize, prioritize and complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks in a high paced, highly regulated environment following strict protocols in regards to audits and detailed documentation. Has the skills to delegate when appropriate. Computer proficient in web based training and Word. Act as a resource for others and is a designated trainer. Must be certified as a Donor Center Technician and a Phlebotomist. Educated and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocation Nurse, Paramedic or Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistant. Current CPR certification required. Requires 1 year of related experience providing medical care and assessing patients. Plasma or whole blood experience preferred. Occupational Demands Form # 75: Work is performed in a plasma center. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F while performing functions in plasma freezers. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves and cold-gear. Work is performed both standing and sitting for up to 2 to 4 hours per day each. The position does require bending and twisting of neck up from 1 to 2 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch or sit on one's heels on rare occasion. Occasionally walks, bends and twists at waist. Light lifting of 15lbs. with a maximum lift of 50lbs. May reach below shoulder height. Hearing acuity essential. Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently and within guidance of oral or written instructions. Performs a wide range of tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions.
